I love you so Matcha!

And matcha loves you too!

Feel good Friday is exploring this green-hued wonder ingredient that has made its way to coffee shops and kitchens around the world.

Matcha is the green powder that results from grinding up the traditional green tea leaves. This warm brain-boosting beverage is best made with a bamboo whisk to froth up small bubbles and ensure no clumps in your tea bowl or mug.

You want to be choosing ceremonial grade tea to ensure that your mug of feel good matcha love is packed with mega nutritional components. Ceremonial grade matcha is made from the youngest tea leaves that have been de-stemmed, and has a very smooth flavour.

So why does matcha make us feel good? And what are these mega nutritional components?

Well, like coffee, matcha will definitely give you an energy boost. There is less caffeine in matcha than in a cup of coffee and with a larger concentration of antioxidants. You know antioxidants…those compounds that help our body eliminate free radicals and make us feel good!.

The presence of one of those antioxidants and the amino acid in matcha called L-theanine slows the absorption of the caffeine. This means no energy crash!

Instead, matcha promotes a peaceful sense of calm alertness.

So how do you make this amazing cup of goodness?

Steps for Homemade Matcha Love:

Sift 1-2 teaspoons of matcha powder into your bowl

Add 2 ounces of hot water (just below boiling) and whisk back and forth until the tea becomes frothy and all the clumps are gone. You can sweeten as you wish but we love Monk fruit as a no calorie, no chemical sweetener.

Sip as you would your tea or coffee and let me know how you feel? Because you know I’m on a mission for you to feel your best!
